Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey Available Now This star-studded Christmas musical is the most magical of the bunch. Picture The Wiz meets Willy Wonka, with John Legend as a producer. Forest Whitaker stars as a down-and-out toymaker who has lost his touch and everything else that makes life special: his wife (Sharon Rose) has passed and his daughter (Tony winner Anika Noni Rose, Little Fires Everywhere, The Princess and the Frog) moved away, estranged....

Going into the big morning a lot of eyes were on a number of fan and critical favorites. And if you’re rooting for Jane Campion’s deconstructionist Western, The Power of the Dog, you had a very nice wake up call with the film over-performing and surprising with 12 nominations, including a surprise second nomination in Best Supporting Actor for Jesse Plemons, who joins co-star Kodi Smit-McPhee in that category. It’s a real coup for Netflix since the once often snubbing streamer now has the film leading in nominees....

Server issues are pretty much par for the course when it comes to live service titles these days. It always takes a couple of weeks to get all of the online components just right after launch. It’s a shame but it’s also just the reality of opening up servers to a huge playerbase, and the fact the most studios around the world are still working remotely certainly doesn’t help. Looter shooters in general rarely smooth launch weekends, but the kinks are usually ironed out eventually....

Given how valuable Titanium is, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that it can be pretty hard to find. Anyone who missed out on the brilliant Final Fantasy 7 Remake will have the chance to experience one of the best games of 2020 and one of the most ambitious video game remakes ever made. If a bold and beautiful remake of one of the most beloved games ever made isn’t quite what you’re looking for, then I highly recommend checking out Remnant: From the Ashes: a simply incredible third-person shooter that borrows elements from roguelikes and the Dark Souls series....

While Rift Apart largely adheres to that format, it introduces a few twists to the planetary level concept that feels very much in the spirit of classic games in the franchise but also takes advantage of Rift Apart‘s unique plot points and mechanics....

In the Syfy series Resident Alien, Harry Vanderspeigle, or the extraterrestrial in the Harry human suit, to be specific, has been trying to get back to his home world after completing a mission to kill everyone on earth. But in the newest episode, “Welcome Aliens,” he has a close encounter with humans in alien suits — as well as one “high-haired gentleman” — at a UFO convention in Dulce, New Mexico....

Riverdale Season 2 Episode 4 At the end of tonight’s exhilarating episode, Jughead grimly states that “Riverdale would no longer be the town with pep, from now on it would be the town that dreaded sundown.” It’s a completely melodramatic moment, one that beautifully illustrates how, early in its second season, the series is unafraid to double down on its inherent ridiculous. It would be far easier for Riverdale to play its world of pixie stick-drug addicts, anarchronistic gangs, and nonsensical musical performances with a nod and a wink....

Rutherford Falls, the new Peacock comedy from Ed Helms, Sierra Teller Ornelas, and co-creator Michael Schur, owes a lot to Schur’s previous series, Parks and Recreation. Not only does Rutherford Falls have its mind on civics, community, and bureaucracy, it also aims to have a lived-in quality, with a focus on world-building. In the four episodes screened for critics, Rutherford Falls makes a concerted effort to give every member of the Northeast community a name and a voice, much like the citizens of Pawnee....

What Is Sailor Moon Eternal? As previously mentioned, Sailor Moon Eternal is the latest addition to the Sailor Moon franchise. It’s a two-part anime film based on the Dream arc of the original manga. Despite this, the production has officially dubbed this portion of the Sailor Moon saga the Dead Moon arc, named after the antagonists the Sailor Guardians face. The film was first announced in 2017 as part of the franchise’s 25th anniversary....

Where to Watch Shang-Chi That’s right, folks. Right now, if you want to watch Shang-Chi, then you’re going to have to do it in theaters—an understandably dicey prospect for many during a global pandemic. Still, Disney is taking a chance on Shang-Chi, giving the film a wide theatrical release in the U.S. and internationally. Tickets are available to purchase here. Last month (via Deadline), Disney CEO Bob Chapek called the theatrical release for Shang-Chi “an interesting experiment,” adding that it will be “another data point” for the studio as it tries to come up with a commercially successful model for big-budget feature film releases during the COVID-19 era....

For half-term viewing with the kids off school, there’s Space Jam: A New Legacy and Dream Horse, as well as the many archive titles already available. Speaking of which, save Book of Love, there doesn’t seem to be a big Valentine’s night-in premiere this year, so perhaps look out one of our picks. Perhaps they felt a great disturbance in the Disney partnership Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in surprise, because after being hounded online about releasing a first trailer for the film by countless fans for months on end, an extremely (extremely) rough cut of Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home promo had seemingly leaked online, and it was spreading fast. Star Trek: Discovery Episode 5 If you want to measure someone’s interest in Star Trek: Discovery, “Choose Your Pain” is a good place to start. For me, this was the least successful episode yet, taking us away from a starship and crew we’ve just begun to meet in favor of a Klingon prison storyline. However, as someone who has genuinely enjoyed Discovery so far, there was still enough here to keep me interested, from Harry Mudd’s waxing poetic about the little people to Stamets’ sacrifice for Ripper....

After giving us the Guardian of Forever in episode 10, it was going to be hard for Star Trek: Discovery to try and top old-school Trekkie nostalgia. Luckily, the final few episodes of Discovery Season 3 aren’t really trying for over-the-top callbacks. Like the episode “Su’Kal,” episode 12 of Season 3 — “There Is a Tide..” — is fairly light on obvious Easter eggs and shout-outs. That said, some of the more subtle Easter eggs connect to much bigger aspects of canon....
